Janet Jackson: I`m a therapist for my pals
Janet Jackson says her friends see her as a therapist and always come to her for advice.
The singer-and-actress has revealed she is a great listener and she never judges those closest to her if they need her help. Janet has been through two failed marriages - to R&B singer James DeBarge and dancer-and-songwriter René Elizondo Jr. - and she says her experience with being unlucky in love helps her give guidance to those close to her. Janet is always happy to offer support to her pals and they see her as a shoulder to cry on during troubled times.
"I have a few friends that call me their therapist, they actually do," she said in an interview with British television show GMTV. "A lot of my friends come to me to vent and talk to me about things. I have been married and I have been divorced twice, so I don`t know if I am the one to be asking about relationship advice, but I am a good listener."
Although Janet is used to offering support to her friends, she sought solace from those around her following the death of her brother Michael Jackson last year. At the time, the 44-year-old was working on movie Why Did I Get Married? and has revealed her co-stars helped her deal with her grief. Janet singled out Tyler Perry, who wrote, directed and starred in the movie as a particular source of comfort.
"They were very loving and very respectful and there for me, especially Tyler," she explained. "It was tough, it still is tough and it helped to put a lot of that into the character when the moments truly called for it."
Tyler was also impressed by the close relationships formed on the set of the movie. He loved working with Janet and the other members of the cast, and they often spent time together once the cameras had stopped rolling. While he and his co-stars shared similar upbringings, Tyler has joked Janet had a totally different lifestyle when she was growing up.
"We really were like family," he revealed. "We are all around the same age and we all have very similar experiences. All of us except Janet, her experiences are much different because of The Jackson 5 and all those things she did. We were in The Projects and she had pet panthers and tigers, we had pet cockroaches and mice!"
